I worked with Nick in my role as Project Manager for a period of 5 to 6 years on a large automation project.
The project was to design and build 5 large automatic manufacturing cells to include chemical processing, heating and drying of wafer mounted electronic devices.
This included special purpose handling systems driven by heavy duty robotic gantries. Each system had a total guarded are of 900 sq/m and withing this guarded area all operations were to be carried out without any manual intervention.
Nick’s initial responsibility on this project was to design, specify the PLC and electrical/ electronic controls and produce the associated software. After some contractual problems with the original supplier, Nick was contracted directly to AVX to provide all electrical installations and some mechanical aspects of the machine build and eventually day to day maintenance and support of all 5 process lines.
Later on, we required 1 cell to be transferred to our operations in Czech Republic, Nick was contracted for the installation and training during the transfer period and to provide the necessary electrical, mechanical manpower for this successful transfer.
I am happy to recommend Nick as a competent Control Systems Engineer and vouch for his excellent capabilities in the electronic, software aspects of the work carried out on my specific projects.
I think it is obvious from the fact that we had sufficient confidence in Nick’s abilities to ask him to carry on the contract after the initial problems with original supplier.
